The BOTS community speaking: Ernst Vismans
One of the most important factors for BOTS by RevenYOU to grow and pursue their goals is to have a strong community. A community of users, developers and colleagues. Today we give the floor to a colleague: Ernst Vismans.
On the trading floor
When we speak to Ernst, he's in Italy. The country where he stays regularly because his girlfriend lives there. "In practice it doesn't matter, because BOTS by RevenYOU is already fully equipped to work remotely. A big advantage."
While studying econometrics, Ernst did an internship at the ABN on the stock exchange floor. "It was an incredibly instructive period. A week after I started at ABN AMRO, the letter from TCI Fund arrived. This hedge fund wanted to fire the board, cut up the bank and sell it in parts. That was the start of the whole affair. The board thought more of a merger with Barclays, but in the end it didn't work out that way. Eight months later, the bank was indeed cut up and sold to a consortium of three banks. I went through the whole process. So you could say that at the hottest point of the cut, I learned a lot."
After his student days, Ernst joined IMC Trading. Initially as a quantitative analyst and later he became an option trader. "Because the crisis just presented itself, it was very interesting on the trading floor. The developments followed very quickly." It soon became clear to Ernst that trading on the trading floor was gradually moving towards trading via a screen. "And there was also more and more automated trading, which was an interesting development.
After 3.5 years Ernst decides to take a break. He's going to travel. During this period, he devises his own trade strategy. A strategy for options. This strategy worked so well that he decided to scale up. Once back in the Netherlands he started a hedge fund with investors. This hedge fund still runs in the background.
Severity & BOTS by RevenYOU
The collaboration between Ernst and RevenYOU came about in a special way. One of the other directors in the fund lived in Italy and moved back to the Netherlands. He took his moving boxes away on an industrial estate in Haarlem. Next to the handover point was a building with a large banner: BOTS trade better than humans. "Well," says Ernst, "of course I wanted to know more about that. So I rang the bell." During a holiday in Thailand the first contact with Ernst was made via a video call.
Ernst's original idea was to integrate the option pricing and back testing system he developed for the hedge fund into the BOTS app. However, the BOTS platform was not yet ready for option trading. Precisely this situation created a win-win for both Ernst and BOTS by RevenYOU. Ernst was hired as a consultant. "My strength is not in IT or marketing, other people are much better at that. We as BOTS have created a powerful team for that. I can apply a lot of trading experience to the back of the app. At the end of the day, trade is just trade. Whether it's options, cryptocurrencies or stocks."
At the moment Ernst is, among other things, working on the architecture of action. "When trading, signals are sent to the market. This process should be as efficient as possible and of course with as little risk as possible. I really look at this as a trader. And not as a user or as a developer."
The future of BOTS
"For me, it is very important that all users are treated equally. Whether you put in a fortune through the BOTS app, or a small amount. That equivalence is a must, so I'm working on that." In addition, Ernst is constantly looking for solutions to make the BOTS app even safer. For both users and developers, but of course also for ourselves.
At first, Ernst was not at all familiar with the cryptomarket. And that made it even more interesting for him. There are other rules you have to keep in mind. Very instructive according to Ernst. "Some bots in the app are so popular that the market they trade on can become too small. For such challenges, I'm trying to find a solution together with the team."
Ernst itself also trades with the BOTS app. "Basically only from a user perspective. What does a user see, what does he run into? Can I solve this? Quite essential for the things I pick up for BOTS."
Ernst is cautiously optimistic about the future of BOTS. According to him, the users of the app are the most important. "And I mean not only the end users, but also the bot builders. By offering them a safe and stable platform, BOTS can become very big. In any case, it is very special to be able to contribute to these developments".
